Eden Prairie, MN – Jenifer Loon announced today that she has formally filed her paperwork and will run for re-election to the Minnesota State House of Representatives for District 48B. Loon was first elected in 2008 and voters have sent her back to serve by large margins in both 2010 and 2012.
“As a State Representative for the past six years I have strived to represent my constituents in a thoughtful manner with hard work and integrity. I make it a priority to listen to every point of view and to treat every citizen with the respect they deserve. I am proud of my record and my work in the Minnesota House to protect taxpayers, encourage job creation, rein in government, and reform and improve our schools,” stated Loon.
“Some of my accomplishments while in office include securing funding and federal approval for the rebuild of the I-494/Hwy 169 interchange; authoring the tap room or ‘Surly’ bill which has lead to the explosive growth of small businesses and jobs in the craft beer industry in Minnesota; relieving our schools of state mandates in the allocation of their staff training dollars; and requiring the first study/audit of the fiscal disparities tax program, which significantly impacts Eden Prairie property tax payers, since the program’s inception in 1972,” Loon continued. “I have been a voice for fiscal sanity, fighting against wasteful spending and ineffective government, while prioritizing the need to make sure all of Minnesota’s children receive an education that prepares them to succeed in tomorrow’s workforce. In order for Minnesota’s economy to thrive, we must reduce regulatory burdens and reform our tax code to foster a business climate that truly encourages enterprising men and women to start and grow good jobs here in our state. These are the priorities Eden Prairie citizens have shared with me as I have continually sought and listened to their input. I look forward to continuing the conversation with our community as I go door to door to earn the support of the voters to serve them for another two years,” said Loon.
Loon is the former Staff Director for the Small Business Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. Prior to serving in elected office, she worked for 16 years in both the public and private sectors to craft and promote policies that encourage the success of small businesses.
Loon and her husband, Doug, have lived in Eden Prairie since 1998 and been active members of the Eden Prairie community. Their two daughters have received all of their K-12 education in the Eden Prairie public schools where Jenifer was a frequent volunteer, serving as former PTO President at Eden Lake Elementary and past chair of the school district’s Curriculum Advisory Committee. Jenifer is currently an active member in both the Eden Prairie AM Rotary Club and the Eden Prairie Chamber of Commerce. Doug Loon is the incoming Chair of the board of the Eden Prairie Community Foundation. The Loon family attends Prairie Lutheran Church in Eden Prairie where Jenifer has served on the church council, taught Sunday school, and helped coordinate weekly fellowship meals.
“Our great country embraces competition in all things–including the political arena. I will run a vigorous campaign and with the help of many wonderful volunteers who have pledged their support, I am prepared to succeed in the Primary and General Elections. I look forward to again earning the support of the residents of Eden Prairie.”
