REPRESENTATIVE JENIFER LOON EARNS SUPPORT OF EDEN PRAIRIE PRIMARY VOTERS
Eden Prairie- Representative Jenifer Loon (R-Eden Prairie) released the following statement in response to Tuesday’s Primary Election results in House District 48B.
“I am very grateful to the Republican primary voters in Eden Prairie’s District 48B for their support today. Your confidence in my public service to our community and our state is truly humbling.
It has been a vigorous contest, and I am incredibly proud of our volunteer team for their dedication and hard work over the past 12 weeks to help me connect with thousands of voters. I would also like to congratulate Sheila Kihne and her volunteers for their hard fought campaign and desire to serve.
With the primary behind us, I look forward to running a strong campaign in the general election and, with the voters’ approval, continuing my service in the Minnesota House of Representatives. It has been a privilege to represent the hard working citizens of Eden Prairie for the past six years and I hope to continue fighting for taxpayers, job creators, parents, students and all residents of Eden Prairie at the State Capitol.
The House Republicans have an outstanding team of candidates on the ballot across the state of Minnesota, and it is an honor to be part of it. We have a great opportunity to bring in a new Republican majority, restoring balance and common sense concern for the taxpayer to Minnesota’s state government next year.”
Loon Campaign Releases Fundraising Report
Campaign Donations Come from Hardworking Minnesotans
Eden Prairie, MN — The Loon Campaign released details on its fundraising totals through the July 21, 2014 pre-primary reporting period. Significant numbers of voters in Eden Prairie and Minnesota demonstrated broad support for Rep. Jenifer Loon’s re-election.
In 2014, through July 21st, the Loon campaign had received contributions from 350 individuals, with an average donation of $152.21 per contributor. 91% of the campaign’s donors are from Eden Prairie, or Minnesota. Out of state contributions include donations from relatives and family friends of Representative Loon.
A total of $56,196.00 has been raised from January 1 through July 21, 2014 in support of Loon’s re-election campaign. Loon has agreed to abide by voluntary campaign spending limits for the 2014 campaign, as she has in all of her previous campaigns.
Endorsement: Loon over Kihne in GOP State House Primary
Article by: EDITORIAL BOARD , Star Tribune
State representative has earned respect during three terms.
In 2011, in only her second term in a legislative body that prizes seniority, Republican state Rep. Jenifer Loon of Eden Prairie was elected an assistant majority leader. In 2013, she was chosen as deputy minority leader.
Those are markers of the respect she has won from her fellow Republicans, not to mention other Capitol players, including many DFLers. Loon is a conscientious, thoughtful legislator who’s entrusted to speak for her party.
It’s that esteem, and not the unwillingness of the District 48B Republican Party to endorse her for a fourth term, that should matter with voters in the Republican primary next Tuesday. Loon deserves their support over challenger Sheila Kihne.
Kihne, 40, is a stay-at-home mother, author of a book about dating, and Republican activist. She declined to meet with a Star Tribune Editorial Board screening panel before the primary. We intended to ask whether her critique of Loon’s performance goes beyond Loon’s May 2013 vote to legalize same-sex marriage. We see little on Kihne’s website to suggest that it does.
Disagreement on that issue ought not have been sufficient to deny party endorsement to a popular sitting legislator, especially given District 48B’s lopsided vote in 2012 against the proposed constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. And especially since there is so much more to Loon’s service than that single vote.
Loon, 50, spent a dozen years in Washington as a congressional aide before moving to Minnesota. She’s comfortable in the legislative arena, and it shows. Small-business tax policy is her long suit, though she’s also done good work on affordable access to quality early education, teacher tenure reform and mandate relief for school districts.
She understands that lawmaking requires both persistence and bipartisan collaboration. Along with DFL Sen. Roger Reinert of Duluth, she wants to be back next year to try again to ease Minnesota’s restrictions on Sunday liquor sales. Eden Prairie primary voters ought not deny her that chance.
Jenifer Loon stands up for hardworking taxpayers. Creating 8,000 new jobs by cutting regulations. She fought Governor Dayton’s tax increases and repealed his job-killing business taxes. Jenifer Loon fights for us.
I’m Jenifer Loon. I will continue to fight for taxpayers at the State Capitol and hold state government accountable for results. In asking for your vote, I pledge to continue to work to make government more effective not more expensive. Let’s get Minnesota back on track.

Representative Jenifer Loon Endorsed by State’s Leading Small Business Group
Also Awarded the NFIB Guardian of Small Business Award
ST. PAUL, Minn., July 28, 2014—The state’s largest business group in terms of entities, the National Federation of Independent Business, today announced that Representative Jenifer Loon (Eden Prairie) has been endorsed by NFIB’s political action committee, the NFIB Minnesota SAFE Trust, in her race for the state House. Representative Loon was also awarded the NFIB Guardian of Small Business Award for her strong voting record and support of small business on critical issues.
The National Federation of Independent Business has approximately 13,000 members in Minnesota, making it the largest business group in terms of entities. “Representative Loon is a strong supporter of small business and had a perfect, 100 per cent voting record for the 2013-14 sessions,” said State Director Mike Hickey.
Representative Loon made many votes in support of small business during the last two-year legislative session, including opposing a large $2.1 billion tax increase that was harmful to Minnesota’s future and also imposed a new, damaging gift tax and also extended the sales tax to critical business and farm equipment repairs. The damaging gift tax and the sales tax extensions were quickly repealed and she also supported that legislation. She also opposed the creation of one of the country’s worst health insurance exchange’s that imposed a new 3.5 per cent assessment on small businesses and individuals only and also contained several provisions that made it unaccountable to the public and even the legislature. She also supported NFIB on other critical issues. Representative Loon is a real friend of small business, and we are happy to announce her endorsement and that she is also a recipient of the NFIB Guardian of Small Business Award.
NFIB is the nation’s leading small business association with offices in Washington, D.C. and all 50 state capitals. Founded in 1943 as a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, NFIB gives small and independent business owners a voice in shaping the public policy issues that affect their business.
