48B Rep. Jenifer Loon has been chosen as the Deputy Republican Leader.

House Republican Leader Kurt Daudt made the announcement on Monday in a news release. Loon was first elected in 2008 and was just re-elected to her third term representing Eden Prairie.

“Rep. Loon is an experienced member with strong relationships inside and outside our caucus,” Daudt said in the release. “Jenifer’s work on job creation and tax reform will add value to the leadership of the House Republican Caucus and the Minnesota House of Representatives. She will be a very positive face for the Republican Party.”

During the last biennium, Loon served as a member of the House Republican Caucus Executive Board and chaired the Steering Committee. She also served as the vice chair of the House Taxes Committee. Before being elected to the House, Loon worked for 13 years in Washington, D.C., including serving as the chief of staff to the House Small Business Committee. Loon and her husband, Doug, have two daughters.

“I’m very excited to join Rep. Daudt’s leadership team,” Loon said. “I look forward to working with him over the next two years as we put forward a positive agenda and show Minnesotans that government reform and efficiency are better alternatives than the tax increases likely coming from Gov. Dayton and the DFL Legislature that will stifle small business job growth and hurt Minnesota families,” she said in the release.

The remainder of the House Republican leadership team will be elected by members on Dec. 12.
