ST. PAUL, Minn. – State Rep. Jenifer Loon (R-Eden Prairie) today was named a “Guardian of Small Business” by the National Federation of Independent Business—Minnesota (NFIB).
According to the NFIB, legislators had to demonstrate a supportive voting record for small businesses during the 2013 and 2014 legislative sessions in order to receive the prestigious recognition.
This included standing up against $2.1 billion in new taxes and new health care policy that increases insurance premium costs. Rep. Loon also led the charge to successfully repeal three job-crushing business-to-business taxes that were implemented in 2013.
“Small businesses are the engine behind our economy. For Minnesota to continue its economic recovery, we need to implement smart policy that encourages businesses to grow and expand here,” said Rep. Loon. “I am pleased to be recognized by NFIB for my efforts to protect businesses from over-burdensome taxes, regulations and red tape that make it harder to flourish and create stable, good-paying jobs.”
“Representative Loon is a real friend of small business and we are happy to announce that she has earned the NFIB Guardian of Small Business Award,” said Mike Hickey, State Director.
NFIB is the state’s largest small business group, with 13,000 members statewide.
To the editor:
Courage, conviction and courtesy are three words that come to mind when thinking about our State Representative, Jenifer Loon. She works hard for the taxpayer, fighting government waste and unnecessary spending that diminishes our ability to do what’s best for our family.
She also stands up for the rights of individuals and the collective will of her community —even when a few in her own party disagree. After a difficult primary, Jenifer emerged a gracious winner. I have never heard her say a bad thing about anyone, and knowing her, doubt I ever will. She is widely respected by her colleagues of all political persuasions, both for her legislative work and how she conducts herself as a person.
As the spouse of a small business owner, I am thrilled that Jenifer has succeeded at creating more opportunities for small businesses to start up and grow jobs in Minnesota. As a mom, I know she supports education policies that put students first and makes sure our education dollars are spent for their success in achieving today’s rigorous standards, while honoring local control and the rights of parents. Finally, as a taxpayer a shining example of her ability to get federal, state and local officials to work together was the successful rebuild of the 494-169 interchange to get traffic moving through that important corridor.
Jenifer Loon has done a great job as our State Representative. I look forward to voting for her again, and hope that voters in Eden Prairie will join me in the upcoming election.
In the upcoming general election, I respectfully ask voters to support an outstanding candidate to continue to serve as state representative for Eden Prairie — Jenifer Loon.
I have worked with Rep. Jenifer Loon on many projects and issues impacting our city, particularly transportation improvements. Jenifer provided great leadership in bringing together a bipartisan group of legislators from surrounding communities to support the rebuilding of the 494-169 interchange. She also reached out to our U.S. Senators, Congressmen and the Secretary of Transportation to move the project forward. As Chair of the I-494 Corridor Commission, I have worked to prioritize highway projects at all government levels so that Eden Prairie residents benefit. Jenifer has been a thoughtful and effective leader at the state level on these issues, offering insights on the process and suggestions for overcoming obstacles.
In addition to transportation, Jenifer has made the startup and success of small businesses in our state a top priority, and thousands of jobs have been created in our state as a result. Her depth of knowledge, gracious style, and well-reasoned logic make her the sound choice for Eden Prairie residents of all political persuasions to vote to return Jenifer to continue her work for us in St. Paul. Please join me in supporting Rep. Jenifer Loon.
Editor’s note: Aho is an Eden Prairie City Council Member.
We write in strong support of Jenifer Loon and hope everyone will join us in voting to re-elect her as our representative. Having known Jenifer for nearly 15 years as a neighbor and friend, and closely followed her work in office, we know she is the best choice.
Jenifer has a depth of knowledge about our community that is important for someone seeking to represent over 39,000 people. From her extensive involvement in Eden Prairie schools, to her work with small businesses in various industries, to her volunteer work and service in her faith community, Jenifer has a well-informed perspective of our diverse citizenry. Jenifer appreciates the struggles of hard-working families and taxpayers and believes government’s role is to remove barriers to opportunity so all who work hard can succeed. From advocating for world-class excellence in the education of our children, to growth in good paying jobs in our economy, to smart investments in infrastructure, Jenifer works to achieve our collective priorities.
Jenifer is also one of the nicest people you will meet. Whether she is delivering a delicious home-cooked meal to a family in need, or helping a constituent experiencing a problem with an agency or policy, Jenifer always takes the time to make a difference. She cares deeply for others, treating everyone with kindness and respect. She values all opinions — even if she doesn’t agree — and never makes others feel like their views don’t matter. While all candidates talk at election time about working courteously with others and not practicing partisan “warfare,” we are fortunate to have an elected official who has publicly put those beliefs in action. Rep. Jenifer Loon has served Eden Prairie and Minnesota well and deserves our support for reelection. Please join us in voting for Jenifer Loon for state representative on Nov. 4.

Explain your platform and why you should be elected:
A strong Minnesota must have a vibrant private sector economy that offers opportunities for all Minnesotans to find good paying jobs, and an educated and skilled workforce ready to seize these opportunities. I believe we can best support the formation of small businesses and the jobs they create by reducing tax and regulatory burdens that stifle this activity. Student-centered reforms to ensure each child is educated to their full potential and our education dollars are achieving high quality results are top priorities for me. My platform is simple — responsible governing that honors our priorities and measures for results, so taxpayers only support essential programs that work.
I have a passion for serving our community, and demonstrated the ability to get things done that matter locally and for all of Minnesota in the six years I have been privileged to represent Eden Prairie. I have authored and passed legislation that eliminated outdated regulations and spurred job growth, repealed ill-conceived business-to-business taxes, and increased opportunities for quality early childhood education. It would be an honor to continue working hard every day to listen to our community’s diverse viewpoints, and make government more effective and less expensive for the citizens of our state.
